Inviting everyone to help others in need
Founded in 2017, San Antonio Partners in Service is an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit (EIN 81-4911109). We have created opportunities for scores of adults with intellectual/ developmental disabilities (IDD) to make care packages for the community. Teaming with churches, civic organizations, and our funding partners, we have provided more than 32,000 care packages to people in need, while empowering our volunteers with IDD through worthwhile, hands-on projects in safe and secure settings. Together, we have provided the IDD community with an increased sense of self-worth while supplying much needed help to our struggling neighbors.
Our team from the Unicorn Center recently celebrated having fed 20,000 patients at two Methodist HealthCare clinics.
•Each week we pack and deliver dozens of sack lunches that are given free to hungry patients at the Wesley and Dixon Clinics.
•Teams from the Unicorn Center and the Arc of San Antonio have also sent out water and snacks to staff and patients at Methodist HealthCare facilities throughout the city during our scorching hot summers.
A wide variety of care packages have been sent to struggling families:
•We have sent hygiene supplies and snacks to refugee families in San Antonio and at the border
•Our team has grown fresh vegetables in a garden at Trinity UMC. The produce along with fresh fruit the team packaged were passed on to low-income families
•We have packaged other useful items, such as diapers and wipes, to new mothers at Providence Place
•We have sent out more than 2,000 family care packages
•Each fall we put together backpacks filled with hygiene supplies and items useful when the weather turns cold (i.e., caps, socks, ponchos, etc.)
•We partner with Travis Park UMC to get these things to people living on the streets before the cold weather sets in
• More than 400 cold weather backpacks have been distributed.
We have sent out about 1,000 care packages for children in need:
•Boxes of food are packaged and sent during spring break each year to local school children who depend on school provided meals and might miss some meals during the break
•Each summer we send out backpacks filled with school supplies for children with a parent in jail. The Texas Inmate Families Association teams with us by distributing the backpacks
•At Christmas we send art supplies, crafts, and other gifts to children from low-income families.
We have sent out about 1000 care packages to seniors:
•We have created care packages for the pets of seniors for Christmas in coordination with Meals on Wheels. One year we sent food, toys, and treats for their pet dogs, while another year we had a project called a Meowy Christmas for their cats.
•We have created gifts for people in local nursing homes for both Christmas and Easter. These have included adult coloring books, crafts, and treats geared toward older folks who might be forgotten during the holidays.
•All the gifts include original artwork and cards from our IDD volunteers.
